VBF-Từ phía CSVN trong nước dù có phản đối nhưng cờ vàng tại Úc vẫn được tung bay. Tất nhiên Úc cũng khẳng định lá cờ là thuộc bên trong cộng đồng chứ không phải đại diện nước nào hết. Dù vậy lá cờ vẫn sẽ được treo cùng với cờ Úc.

ADELAIDE - Cờ Vàng của Việt Nam Cộng Hòa sắp tung bay trong khu công viên Regency Park Reserve, bất chấp những phản đối từ nhà cầm quyền cộng sản Việt Nam.

Theo tin của tuần báo địa phương Portside Weekly Messenger, trong tuần qua, hội đồng thành phố Port Adelaide Enfield ở miền nam nước Úc đã bỏ phiếu biểu quyết chi ra $5,000 Úc kim ($3,900 Mỹ kim), để đặt một tấm bảng tưởng niệm và hai cột cờ, theo lời thỉnh cầu cộng đồng người Việt Nam trước đó trong năm nay. Một cột cờ sẽ treo lá Cờ Vàng của Việt Nam Công Hòa, còn cột kia dành cho quốc kỳ nước Úc.

Vấn đề này đã gây ra một phản ứng mạnh mẽ từ nhà cầm quyền Việt Nam. Họ đã gửi cho hội đồng thành phố một bức thư xin “chấm dứt việc thi hành một quyết định không phù hợp như thế.”

Bức thư viết, “Quyết định như vậy gây ra sự xúc phạm sâu sắc cho chính phủ và nhân dân Việt Nam, vì quyết định đó... chỉ làm hồi sinh quá khứ của hận thù và đau buồn, cũng như cản trở những nỗ lực hòa giải.” Hội đồng nhận được lá thư trong tháng Tám, và đưa lá thư vào trong bản phúc trình về vấn đề treo cờ được các nghị viên thảo luận trong tuần qua.

Hội đồng thành phố đã bỏ phiếu chấp thuận cho treo cả hai lá cờ trong một tuần lễ mừng Tết Nguyên Đán vào ngày 16 tháng Hai, và một lần nữa treo từ ngày 13 tháng Tám, để kỷ niệm Trận Đánh Long Tân, diễn ra trong thời chiến Việt Nam trong tháng Tám, 1966.

Cờ Vàng là biểu tượng của Việt Nam Việt Nam, được quân đội Hoa Kỳ và Úc Đại Lợi ủng hộ trong cuộc chiến chống Cộng Sản Bắc Việt trước năm 1975. Sau năm đó thì Việt Nam nằm dưới một chế độ độc tài đảng trị, đàn áp nhân quyền và tôn giáo kéo dài đến ngày nay.

Thị Trưởng Gary Johanson nói rằng ông không hề lo ngại vì những lời phản đối từ phía Hà Nội.
Ông Johanson nói, “Là một hội đồng, chúng tôi phải quả quyết. Tôi thường nhận những bức email nói rằng tôi đang làm việc tệ quá, và tôi chấp nhận sự chỉ trích, vì nếu bạn tìm cách làm hài lòng mọi người, thì bạn sẽ không làm được công việc đúng cách.”

Nghị Viên Matt Osborn nói rằng ông cảm thấy “bực tức vì chúng tôi đang bị theo dõi” bởi một chính phủ ngoại quốc.

Tuy nhiên, một số nghị viên cũng đã xung khắc với nhau về chuyện liệu việc cho treo Cờ Vàng bên cạnh cờ Úc có phải là một vụ vi phạm thủ tục ngoại giao hay không.

Nghị Viên Peter Jamieson nói rằng ông “rất ủng hộ” việc treo Cờ Vàng vì những lý do văn hóa.
Ông Jamieson nói, “Tuy nhiên, tôi lo ngại rằng thủ tục ngoại giao của chính phủ Úc có thể sẽ không cho phép Cờ Vàng được treo bên cạnh quốc kỳ Úc, tại những địa điểm công cộng của hội đồng.”

Chính sách của chính phủ Úc là chỉ có những lá cờ chính thức của các nước khác được treo cùng với lá cờ Úc.
Nghị Viên Guy Wilcock lập luận rằng lá cờ vàng đại diện cho một cộng đồng hơn là cho một quốc gia.
Ông Wilcock nói, “Đây là một biểu tượng của một thành phần trong cộng đồng chúng tôi, chứ không phải là lá cờ của một nước ngoại quốc. Lá cờ đó có thể và nên được treo bên cạnh lá cờ Úc.”
