Theo bản tin của Siena College Research Insitute và USA Today vào đầu năm vừa qua, Donald Trump được xếp vào hạng thứ ba trong số những tổng thống tồi tệ nhất trong lịch sử Hoa Kỳ. Đội sổ là Andrew Johnson (người bị vận tội) và James Buchanan (tổng thống Hoa Kỳ trước khi có nội chiến).

Những tổng thống được xếp hạng cao nhất là George Washington, Franklin Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt và Thomas Jefferson. Barack Obama đứng hạng 17, George W. Bush hạng 33, Bill Clinton hạng 15, Ronald Reagan hạng 13, John Kennedy hạng 10. Tổng Thống Dwight Eisenhower đứng hạng thứ sáu. Tổng Thống Donald Trump bị xếp vào hạng 42, trên James Buchanan và Andrew Johnson.

Trên đây là kết quả của cuộc điều nghiên 157 học giả, sử gia và khoa học gia chinh trị do Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) tổ chức. Đây là lần thứ sáu kể từ 1982 SCRI đã thực hiện cuộc điều nghiên này theo lịch trình 4 năm hay 8 năm một lần. Mỗi học giả cho điểm các tổng thống về 20 lãnh vực khác nhau từ lý lịch, cá tính, khả năng cho đến thành tích.

Tổng Thống Trump bị xếp hạng thấp nhất trong 44 tổng thống (Grover Cleveland là tổng thống hai lần khác nhau: thứ 22 và thứ 24) về những lãnh vực sau đây: lý lịch (background), liêm chính (integrity), thông minh, bổ nhiệm nhân viên, khả năng tổng quát. Ông cũng bị xếp hạng áp chót về khả năng lãnh đạo đảng, liên hệ với Quốc Hội, khả năng thỏa hiệp và khả năng giao thiệp.

Các học giả nhận định rằng Tổng Thống Trump đã làm nhiều quyết định sai lầm: 85% sai về ngoại giao, 85% sai về kinh tế, 92% sai về nhân quyền và 92% sai về nguyên tắc dân chủ.

Trãi qua 1 năm từ tháng 2/2019 tới 1/2020, Trump có lẽ đứng yên vị trí thứ 3 mà cũng không chừng bị tụt hạng.
