A year after a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northern Myanmar, the road to Mandalay has begun to see signs of recovery. Significant progress has been made on infrastructure, with gaping fissures in the primary route filled and several sections resurfaced. However, the recovery remains uneven; while the road is functional, the historic Ava Bridge still sits with broken spans drooping into the river, serving as a stark visual reminder of the disaster that claimed over 3,800 lives in Myanmar and 90 in neighboring Thailand on March 28, 2025.

In the capital of Naypyidaw, reconstruction efforts are visible at the main hospital. The heavy concrete awning of the emergency department, which famously collapsed during the tremor, has been replaced by a much lighter structure featuring a plastic roof. This site was a focal point of early reporting, capturing the initial chaos as the junta leadership attempted to direct rescue operations amidst a country already grappling with a long-term civil war.

Mandalay, the ancient royal city that bore the heaviest brunt of the seismic activity, presents a mixed landscape of restoration and loss. Residential areas that were once flattened have largely been cleared, with some homes rebuilt and others remaining as empty, fenced-off lots. Along the iconic palace moat, the once-tilted watchtowers have been brought back upright, and the banks are once again filled with joggers and tourists rather than the thousands of displaced residents who camped there for weeks following the tragedy.

Religious and cultural sites are seeing a slower, more grassroots form of restoration. At the Thahtay Kyaung monastery, monks who initially cleared rubble by hand are now rebuilding as resources allow, facing significant economic hardships. In the suburb of Amarapura, several Buddha statues have been meticulously restored. However, for some communities, the recovery is stalled by bureaucracy; in Bon Oe village, a mosque that collapsed during Friday prayers has yet to receive government approval for a permanent replacement, forcing worshippers to gather under temporary tarps and palm leaves.

The psychological toll of the earthquake remains deeply embedded in the local population. As the community marks the one-year anniversary, many survivors report that the trauma feels as fresh as the day it occurred. In villages and city centers alike, residents describe a persistent fear, where even a sudden loud noise can trigger the same trembling sensation they felt during the massive 2025 tremor, proving that while the physical road to Mandalay is being repaired, the emotional healing is far from complete.

Block Blast: A Friendly Guide to How to Play
Introduction
Block Blast is a simple-to-learn, satisfying puzzle game where the core fun comes from clearing blocks efficiently. Even if you’re new to the genre, you can get the hang of it quickly by focusing on a few basic ideas—planning your moves, reacting to the board, and building momentum as you play.

Gameplay
In Block Blast, you’ll work with a grid filled with blocks. Your goal is typically to clear lines/sections by matching or removing blocks according to the game’s rules. As the board changes, new blocks may appear, so you’ll want to keep an eye on both your immediate move and what might happen next.

Each round usually feels like a cycle:

Scan the board for available matches or clear opportunities.
Make a move that helps you remove blocks now or sets up a better clearing chain.
React to new blocks that land after your action, adjusting your strategy on the fly.
As you play, the board can get more crowded. That’s where decision-making matters: sometimes it’s better to clear something small immediately, while other times setting up a bigger clear gives you more breathing room.

Tips
Prioritize building “safe space.” Try to keep at least a few areas of the grid open. When the board is too packed, it becomes harder to find good moves.
Look for chains, not just single clears. A move that sets up the next clear can be more valuable than a move that only fixes one small problem.
Plan one step ahead. Before you place or trigger anything, ask yourself: What will the board look like after this? If your move blocks your future options, you may get stuck.
If you’re unsure, clear what you can. Getting a small clear now can buy time and improve the overall shape of the board.
For an easy starting point, remember to keep your moves purposeful: clear blocks when it helps, set up bigger opportunities when you can, and avoid trapping yourself.

If you’re looking for a place to start, you can check out Block Blast .

Conclusion
Block Blast is all about staying calm, reading the grid, and making smart choices that keep the board under control. With a bit of practice—especially learning how to set up chain clears—you’ll start seeing patterns faster and making cleaner moves.
