Ngày 6 tháng 7 năm 2017, rất nhiều người Việt đã mang theo cờ vàng VNCH phản đối thủ tướng Việt Cộng Nguyễn Xuân Phúc. Khoảng 16:30 tới 18:30, khi đoàn xe của TT Phúc qua lâu đài Bellevue (Schloss Bellevue) ở Berlin thì bị hàng loạt người biểu tình "chào đón" bằng màn cờ vàng và băng rôn.



Theo trang mạng của Phủ thủ tướng Đức phổ biến thì trước thời điểm diễn ra Hội Nghị Thượng Đĩnh G20, thủ tướng Đức Angela Merkel sẽ có những cuộc gặp gỡ với Chủ tịch Trung cộng Tập Cận Bình vào ngày 4.7, Tổng thống Hàn Quốc Moon Jae-in vào ngày 5.7 và Thủ tướng Lý Hiển Long của Singapore vào ngày 6.7, mà không có sự gặp gỡ nào với thủ tướng VC Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, mặc dù ông Phúc sẽ đại diện cho Việt Nam vừa kết hợp thăm nước Đức và tham dự hội nghị.




Dư luận cho rằng có lẽ vì thành tích nhân quyền mới nhất của nhà cầm quyền VC mà một số nước thành viên của G20 đã lên tiến phản đối như việc tước quốc tịch và trục xuất Gs. Phạm Minh Hoàng ra khỏi VN, tuyên một bản án nặng nề 10 năm đối với Blogger Mẹ Nấm vì đã sử dụng quyền biểu đạt tư tưởng của mình trên Internet nên thủ tướng Đức đã từ chối tiếp ông Nguyễn Xuân Phúc vì "bận". Cách nói theo ngôn ngữ ngoại giao.
Tuy nhiên bộ Ngoại Giao Đức cũng sắp xếp cho ông Phúc gặp Tổng Thống Đức, ông Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Chức vụ Tổng thống của Đức không có thực quyền, chỉ mang tính tượng trưng. Ông Frank-Walter Steinmeier là người trao giải thưởng Nhân Quyền năm 2017 của Liên đoàn Thẩm phán Cộng hòa Liên bang Đức cho Luật Sư nhân quyền Nguyễn Văn Đài vào ngày 5 Tháng 4 Năm 2017.




Ngoài 20 nước thành viên chính thức của G20, Hội nghị còn mời thêm một số nước tham dự với tư cách quan sát viên, trong đó có Việt Nam. G20 là hội nghị của những quốc gia có nền kinh tế phát triển nhất thế giới, trong khi đó VN ở vị trí ngược lại, vì vậy những năm trước lãnh đạo CSVN mượn cơ hội này để xin xỏ những quốc gia có nền kinh đứng đầu thế giới miễn giảm cho VN một số điều kiện trong các giao ước kinh tế.
Hội nghị thượng đỉnh G20 năm nay sẽ được tổ chức vào 2 ngày 7 và 8 Tháng Bảy, 2017 tại thành phố Hamburg – Đức quốc với chủ đề của hội nghị là: “Xây dựng một thế giới nối mạng – định hình của thế giới nối liên kết”.
