Ngày 24/7 theo giờ Washington, Bộ trưởng Thương mại Mỹ đã đưa ra tối hậu thư: Nếu Trung Quốc không chấp thuận thương vụ bán TikTok, ứng dụng này sẽ bị chấm dứt hoạt động tại Mỹ.Tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump vào tháng trước đã một lần nữa gia hạn thời hạn buộc công ty Trung Quốc ByteDance bán tài sản TikTok tại Mỹ thêm 90 ngày, hạn chót sẽ đến vào ngày 17/9.

Đây là lần thứ ba ông Trump trì hoãn việc thực thi lệnh cấm TikTok; tuy nhiên, Bộ trưởng Thương mại Mỹ Howard William Lutnick hôm thứ Năm (24/7) đã đưa ra tối hậu thư rằng nếu Trung Quốc không chấp thuận thương vụ bán TikTok, ứng dụng này sẽ buộc phải ngừng hoạt động tại Mỹ. Quyết định cấm có thể sẽ được đưa ra trong thời gian ngắn tới đây.

TikTok hiện có 170 triệu người dùng tại Mỹ – một con số đáng kể so với dân số 340 triệu của nước này, và đang cực kỳ phổ biến. Bộ trưởng Lutnick tuyên bố rằng nếu Trung Quốc không phê duyệt thương vụ, TikTok sẽ bị cấm hoạt động tại Mỹ.

Yêu cầu kiểm soát thuật toán
Bộ trưởng Howard W. Lutnick nhấn mạnh rằng Mỹ phải kiểm soát thuật toán của TikTok: “Trung Quốc hoặc công ty mẹ ByteDance hiện nay có thể nắm giữ một phần nhỏ. Nhưng về cơ bản, người Mỹ phải nắm quyền kiểm soát, sở hữu công nghệ này và kiểm soát thuật toán của nó”.

Ông nói: “Nếu thương vụ được Trung Quốc chấp thuận, thì giao dịch sẽ hoàn tất. Nếu không, TikTok sẽ bị cấm. Những quyết định này sẽ sớm được đưa ra”. Hiện TikTok cũng như công ty mẹ ByteDance chưa đưa ra bình luận nào.

Triển vọng của TikTok tại Mỹ vẫn bất định kể từ năm ngoái, khi Quốc hội thông qua đạo luật yêu cầu công ty mẹ Trung Quốc ByteDance phải bán TikTok, nếu không sẽ đối mặt với lệnh cấm. Các nhà lập pháp Mỹ lo ngại chính phủ Trung Quốc có thể truy cập dữ liệu nhạy cảm của người dùng Mỹ hoặc thao túng nội dung trên nền tảng này.
