Trong 14 tháng qua nước Mỹ giống như một cái hố đen tối. Đất nước này đang trở thành một phần như cái thế giới trong tiểu thuyết 1984 của [nhà văn người Anh] George Orwell, và một phần như vùng đất Lotus-Eaters của nhà thơ Homer.
Dường như chẳng có thứ ǵ khởi tác dụng cả. Và dường như chẳng có người nào đang nắm quyền điều hành tỏ vẻ quan tâm.
Biên giới từng an toàn một thời của năm 2020 đă biến mất. Hai triệu người đă vượt biên trái phép qua biên giới phía Nam trong 12 tháng qua. Hàng triệu người khác đang trên đường vượt biên.
Chính phủ Biden đă đơn phương và đơn giản là hủy bỏ luật nhập cư hiện hành.

Ở ngoại quốc, chúng ta đă xem xét t́nh h́nh tương đối có thể kiểm soát được ở Afghanistan và đơn giản là chúng ta đă tháo chạy. Lực lượng khủng bố Taliban nhanh chóng tiếp quản và khôi phục quyền thống trị thời trung cổ của họ.
Chính phủ đă từ bỏ một đại sứ quán trị giá 1 tỷ USD và vứt bỏ một căn cứ không quân được trang bị lại trị giá 300 triệu USD tại Bagram. Hơn 70 tỷ USD quân dụng và vũ khí đă được để lại cho những kẻ khủng bố Taliban.

Chính phủ sợ sự tức giận của phe cánh tả cứng rắn hơn là sự phẫn nộ của người dân Mỹ. V́ vậy, họ sẽ không thay đổi, thích đúng đắn về mặt chính trị mà thất bại c̣n hơn là sai lầm về mặt tư tưởng mà thành công.
Thứ ba, khi người dân phản đối, chính phủ này trả lời bằng cách đổ lỗi cho những người khác về sự lộn xộn do họ tự tạo ra hoặc bằng việc t́m cách đánh lạc hướng. Bây giờ chính phủ này đang đổ lỗi cho những người sở hữu súng về làn sóng tội phạm mà họ đă dung dưỡng, đổ lỗi cho “những người được cho là tôn vinh quyền thượng đẳng da trắng” về những căng thẳng sắc tộc mà chính phủ này gây ra, và đổ lỗi cho ông Putin, người mà họ đă nhân nhượng.
