Người dân ở Brooklyn Center đổ ra đường biểu tình ngay từ đêm 12/4 và tiếp tục hoạt động này trong những đêm tiếp theo. Hỗn loạn và bạo lực nổ tại ba đêm biểu tình đầu tiên, khi đám đông ném gạch đá về phía cảnh sát, buộc lực lượng chức năng phải sử dụng hơi cay để giải tán. Tuy nhiên, các cuộc biểu tình vào đêm thứ tư và thứ năm diễn ra ôn hòa hơn.Kim Potter, nữ cảnh sát Brooklyn Center, bị bắt với cáo buộc giết người sau khi bắn chết Wright. Potter appeared in the first court hearing on April 14. Sheriff Broolyn Center later said the policewoman shot and killed Wright for mistaking the pistol for the stun gun. The Wright family said on April 14 that "there will never be justice for us".

Brooklyn Center officials are preparing to respond to more protests, in the context of the city of Minneapolis, only about 16 km away, is also strained because of the trial of Derek Chauvin, the police officer accused of killing.
