Tờ The Guardian đưa tin Israel ngày 31.8 ghi nhận gần 11.000 ca nhiễm Covid-19 mới. Đây là số liệu theo ngày cao nhất từ trước đến nay. Tổng số ca nhiễm ghi nhận đến nay ở Israel là hơn 1 triệu với hơn 7.000 ca tử vong.
Xu hướng lây nhiễm tăng mạnh ở Israel do biến chủng Delta gây ra. Tuy vậy, nước này vẫn đang thúc đẩy kế hoạch mở cửa hệ thống trường học cho năm học mới.
Thủ tướng Naftali Bennett nhấn mạnh có thể kiểm soát đà lây nhiễm hiện nay thông qua việc tiêm chủng vắc xin và các biện pháp bảo vệ khác như đeo khẩu trang.

Chính quyền Israel khuyến khích và kêu gọi mọi người dân nước này từ 12 tuổi trở lên tiêm mũi vắc xin tăng cường. Thủ tướng Naftali Bennett cũng cho biết việc tiêm mũi tăng cường đã mang lại kết quả khi giảm được lượng bệnh nhân nhập viện.
Theo thống kê, khoảng 60% dân số Israel đã tiêm đủ 2 liều vắc xin, trong đó tính riêng người trưởng thành là 80%. Dân số Israel là 9,3 triệu dân.
Hồi tháng 12.2020, Israel là một trong những quốc gia đầu tiên triển khai chiến dịch tiêm vắc xin toàn quốc, giúp số ca nhiễm giảm mạnh.
