Alan Dershowitz Explains Why Trump Got Results While Obama Fell Short

Alan Dershowitz said on Fox Business Tuesday that President Donald Trump achieved diplomatic breakthroughs, whereas former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden failed.
Trump brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas on Monday, as the terrorist group released the 20 surviving hostages taken during the Oct. 7, 2023 massacre that killed more than 1,200 people in southern Israel. Appearing on “The Evening Edit,” Dershowitz said Trump succeeded where his predecessors failed because he understood how to connect military power to diplomacy.
“The reason that Donald Trump, President Trump, got this done is because he first allowed Israel to destroy Hamas, to destroy Hezbollah, to attack Iran,” Dershowitz told host Elizabeth MacDonald. “Then with the help of the United States, weaken all of Israel’s enemies and all of Hamas’ friends, and then Hamas had no choice.”
Dershowitz said even former secretaries of state from prior administrations have acknowledged that.

“Without Israel’s attacks, Trump could not have brought about diplomatically what he did. It really shows the incredibly strong relationship between Israel and the United States,” Dershowitz said. “When they act together, nobody can stop them. And when they’re divided, as they were during the Obama administration and during the Biden administration, and weakness is shown, then you’re not going to get peace.”

“You only get peace through strength. Military strength is followed by diplomatic strength. That’s what President Trump understood. He understood it well, and he achieved success,” Dershowitz said.
Trump ended the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran in May 2018, calling it “a horrible deal that should never, ever have been made.” Critics said the 2015 agreement “paved the road” for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
The Biden administration later tried to revive the deal through a softer approach toward Tehran, releasing $6 billion in frozen oil revenues held by South Korea in exchange for five detained Americans. Biden also eased sanctions, letting Iran boost oil exports and allowed Iraq to buy electricity from Iran.
In June, the U.S. struck Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, deploying seven B-2A Spirit bombers that dropped 14 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators during a 37-hour operation.
