Tin Washington DC – Chính phủ Trump đang thiết lập một đơn vị mới thuộc Bộ Tư Pháp, để giải quyết thủ tục tước quốc tịch của những người che giấu quá khứ phạm tội trong đơn xin quốc tịch, bao gồm cả tội khủng bố và tội ác chiến tranh.


Đơn vị mới, thuộc Pḥng pháp lư nhập cư của Bộ Tư Pháp, sẽ chịu trách nhiệm về việc tước quốc tịch của những người không khai báo về các hoạt động tội phạm trong quá khứ, trong đơn xin quốc tịch N-400.

Những người che giấu các thông tin này sẽ bị coi là có được quốc tịch Mỹ bằng phương pháp gian lận. Đơn xin quốc tịch N-400 có các câu hỏi hỏi rằng liệu người làm đơn có liên quan đến các tội án nghiêm trọng hay không, như tội diệt chủng hoặc tra tấn, hoặc có là thành viên của tổ chức khủng bố, hoặc có liên hệ với chính phủ quốc xă của Đức hay không, hoặc có từng bị kết tội h́nh sự và ngồi tù hay không.

Những người bị tước quốc tịch sẽ là những người khai báo gian dối đối với các câu hỏi này. Phó Bộ Trưởng Tư Pháp Jody Hunt nói, Đơn vị tước quốc tịch sẽ hỗ trợ các nỗ lực của Bộ Tư Pháp trong việc t́m ra những người có được quốc tịch bằng cách gian lận, và buộc họ chịu trách nhiệm cho các hành động sai trái trước đây.

Từ năm 2008 đến nay, Bộ Tư Pháp đă tước quốc tịch của 228 người, bao gồm các kẻ khủng bố, tội phạm chiến tranh, và tội phạm t́nh dục. Việc tước quốc tịch này không nhắm vào những người phạm tội sau khi đă trở thành công dân Hoa Kỳ
