Default Vietnamese abroad raise VND6.2 billion for COVID-19 vaccine fund

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on June 17 handed over more than VND6.2 billion raised by Vietnamese nationals abroad and some organisations to the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee in support of the national COVID-19 vaccine fund.

Part of the sum was donated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Lao National Assembly.

Son said in response to calls by the State President and Prime Minister, Vietnamese nationals living in the United States, France, Canada and many other countries have followed with keen interest the COVID-19 fight in the homeland and stay ready to shoulder and share their compatriots’ difficulty.

Hearing about the Government’s decision to establish the COVID-19 vaccine fund, Vietnamese nationals overseas, despite confronting with difficulty in pandemic prevention and fulfilling civic duties to the host country, have still responded strongly to the call, by raising funds to support the fight, the Minister noted.

They have also launched the campaign “Join hands for Vietnam” and “10,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines for Vietnam” to support the people in the country, especially frontline forces, to overcome the pandemic.

VFF Central Committee President Do Van Chien thanked Vietnamese nationals abroad for their noble deeds, making a great contribution both materially and spiritually to the fight against the pandemic at home. He said the VFF will openly and transparently allocate the aid to the right recipients.
