Vaccine ngừa COVID-19 của AstraZeneca và liên doanh Pfizer (Mỹ) - BioNTech (Đức) vẫn có hiệu quả chống lại hai biến thể của SARS-CoV-2 phát hiện lần đầu tại Ấn Độ là Delta và Kappa.Đây là kết quả một nghiên cứu do các nhà nghiên cứu thuộc Đại học Oxford thực hiện và công bố trên tạp chí Cell ngày 23/4, qua đó khuyến khích các nước đẩy mạnh chương trình tiêm chủng để phòng dịch COVID-19.

Để có được kết luận trên, các nhà nghiên cứu đã tiến hành kiểm tra năng lực của các kháng thể trong mẫu máu của người đã tiêm đủ hai mũi vaccine trong việc vô hiệu hóa các biến thể Delta và Kappa.

Tuần trước, Cơ quan Y tế công vùng England (PHE) của Anh cũng khẳng định các loại vaccine ngừa COVID-19 của Pfizer Inc - BioNTech và AstraZeneca vẫn có hiệu quả bảo vệ người tiêm chủng cao (tới hơn 90%) để không phải nhập viện điều trị do nhiễm biến thể Delta.

Ngoài nghiên cứu về hiệu quả của các các loại vaccine hiện có trong phòng chống COVID-19, các nhà khoa học của trường Đại học Oxford cũng đang phân tích các trường hợp tái nhiễm. Kết quả phân tích dữ liệu cho thấy bệnh nhân COVID-19 do nhiễm biến thể Beta phát hiện lần đầu tại Nam Phi và biến thể Gamma tại Brazil sau khi được điều trị vẫn có nguy cơ cao tái nhiễm biến thể Delta.

Ngược lại, biến thể Alpha hay còn gọi là B117 được phát hiện đầu tiên tại Anh lại có khả năng bảo vệ người khỏi bệnh trước nguy cơ tái nhiễm mọi loại biến thể. Do đó, Alpha có khả năng trở thành ứng cử viên tiềm năng để nghiên cứu và phát triển vaccine phòng ngừa biến thể mới một cách triệt để hơn.
