Theo số liệu của World Ometer, trong ṿng 24 giờ qua, Ấn Độ ghi nhận thêm hơn 370.000 ca mắc Covid-19 sau khi lập kỷ lục thế giới với hơn 400.000 ca mới/ngày. Cũng trong ṿng 24 giờ qua, Ấn Độ có thêm hơn 3.400 người tử vong v́ đại dịch. Tính đến sáng nay 3/5, Ấn Độ ghi nhận tổng cộng gần 20 triệu ca mắc Covid-19, trong đó gần 219.000 người đă tử vong. Chuyên gia dịch tễ hàng đầu của Mỹ Antony Fauci cho rằng, để ngăn đà lây lan Covid-19 hiện nay, Ấn Độ cần phong tỏa toàn quốc trong vài tuần.
Ấn Độ hiện không phải "điểm nóng" duy nhất trong đợt bùng phát mới của Covid-19. Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ hôm 29/4 lần đầu tiên phải ban bố lệnh phong tỏa toàn quốc do số ca mắc Covid-19 tăng mạnh nhất châu Âu.
Iran cũng ghi nhận số ca tử vong v́ Covid-19 trong ngày tăng mạnh buộc nhiều thành phố phải phong tỏa một phần để ngăn virus lây lan. Tổng thống Iran Hassan Rouhani nói rằng, nước này đang đối mặt với làn sóng lây nhiễm Covid-19 thứ tư.
Toàn cảnh đại dịch Covid-19 ở Nam Mỹ cũng vô cùng ảm đạm. Brazil, tâm dịch lớn thứ ba thế giới, đến nay đă ghi nhận hơn 14,5 triệu ca mắc, trong đó gần 400.000 người đă tử vong. Brazil tiếp tục ghi nhận tỷ lệ tử vong do Covid-19 hàng ngày cao nhất thế giới.
Tại châu Á, Campuchia ngày 2/5 ghi nhận 730 ca mắc mới và 6 ca tử vong, nâng tổng số người mắc Covid-19 và tử vong lên lần lượt 14.520 ca và 103 ca. Cơ quan Kiểm soát và Pḥng ngừa Dịch bệnh Campuchia đă khuyến cáo người dân ở trong nhà, thực hiện giăn cách xă hội để ngăn dịch lan rộng, đặc biệt ở thủ đô Phnom Penh.
Hôm 1/5, Sri Lanka cũng ghi nhận số ca mắc Covid-19 mới cao kỷ lục ngày thứ 5 liên tiếp. "Chúng ta có thể sớm đối mặt một cuộc khủng hoảng như Ấn Độ nếu không sớm ngăn chặn đà lây lan của Covid-19", chuyên gia dịch tễ hàng đầu của Sri Lanka Sudath Samaraweera cảnh báo.
Tại Nepal, giới chức nước này cảnh báo, tốc độ bùng phát Covid-19 hiện tại đang mạnh hơn khả năng chống đỡ của hệ thống y tế vốn quá tải. Trong tuần qua, Nepal ghi nhận ngày có số ca Covid-19 nhiều nhất kể từ tháng 10 năm ngoái.
Malaysia hôm qua ghi nhận ca đầu tiên nhiễm biến chủng B1617 - một biến chủng của SARS-CoV-2 được cho là dễ lây lan hơn các chủng cũ và đang lan rộng ở Ấn Độ.
Mặc dù Nhật Bản đă ban bố t́nh trạng khẩn cấp lần ba v́ Covid-19, song giới chuyên gia y tế nước này tỏ ra hoài nghi về hiệu quả kiểm soát đợt bùng phát dịch mới tại đây. Điều này là bởi việc đóng cửa các cơ sở kinh doanh c̣n hạn chế, nhiều người c̣n thờ ơ với các khuyến cáo pḥng dịch.
Số ca mắc Covid-19 mới ở Hàn Quốc tăng hơn 600 ca ngày thứ 4 liên tiếp, trong đó chủ yếu ở khu vực đô thị Seoul. T́nh trạng này buộc giới chức địa phương phải gia hạn các quy định giăn cách xă hội thêm 3 tuần đến 23/5. Tuy vậy, giới chức Hàn Quốc lo ngại số ca mắc mới tiếp tục tăng do đây là thời điểm của các dịp lễ lớn ở nước này.
Trong khi một số nước phương Tây rục rịch trở lại cuộc sống b́nh thường trong những tuần tới, thế giới vẫn chật vật đối phó đại dịch. Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới (WHO) tuần trước cho biết, số ca mắc Covid-19 toàn cầu tăng tuần thứ 9 liên tiếp và số ca tử vong cũng tăng tuần thứ 6 liên tiếp.
"Số ca mắc Covid-19 toàn cầu tuần trước ngang ngửa với số ca của 5 tháng đầu tiên bùng phát dịch", Tổng giám đốc WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus cho biết.
Đến nay, thế giới ghi nhận hơn 153 triệu ca mắc Covid-19, trong đó hơn 3,2 triệu người đă tử vong.
