Hanoi is forecast to experience torrential downpours from June 8 to June 10 with the majority of rainfall occurring in the evening and at night, according to the latest warning issued by the National Center for Hydro-meteorology Forecasting.
Several districts throughout the capital city are likely to experience consecutive spells of heavy rain, including the possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts.
Due to the influence of a low-pressure trough combined with wind convergence of up to 5,000m, between June 8 and June 10, the northern region, including Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces will see moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms. Indeed, during this period these localities will be hit by an average rainfall of between 80mm to 200mm per period, with this even rising to over 250mm per period in several places.
Due to the amount of rainfall expected, mountainous provinces have been warned of the risks of flash floods, landslides, and localised flooding.
The southern sea areas from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau and the northwest sea around the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago will endure south-westerly winds of level five as wind gusts get up to category 7, whilst sea waves will rise up to 3m.
In the middle and south of the East Sea, including in the waters of the Truong Sa archipelago, the sea areas from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand, will also suffer showers and thunderstorms with the possibility of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.
Strong winds and thunderstorms over southern seas are likely to last for the next three to five days.
