The Key Is To Remember Your Locker Number
Employees, Ignoring & Inattentive, Office, Ohio, USA | Working | May 11, 2020
At my workplace, we have several lockers employees can use during the day, all of which open with keys. Employees will carry their locker keys with them and unlock their lockers at the end of the day, while some will simply leave the key in the lock.
On her last day, just before she is about to leave and move to another state, one employee reports to the manager that her purse was stolen from her locker. This begins a building-wide search for the missing purse. The purse is never found, and the employee fills out a missing item form.
A few days later, the manager has an interesting story to tell.
Manager: “Remember [Coworker]? Well, we found her purse.”
Employee: “Really? Where was it?”
Manager: “After all the searching we did, turning the building upside down, it was in her locker.”
Employee: “What?”
Manager: “Turns out her locker was number 83, but she had a key labeled 93… that opened locker 83.”
Employee: “Still, I’d think the first place I’d look is in every locker, instead of all over the building.”
Manager: “It’s too bad, really. She had to cancel her credit cards and everything. Her dad is coming to pick up the purse. He’ll get it to her somehow.”
