President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has underlined the necessity of protecting citizens’ health and safety whilst minimising the fatalities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc holds a working session with leaders of Ho Chi Minh City
During the course of a working session held on July 30 with leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, currently the nation’s largest COVID-19 hotspot, the Vietnamese State leader said it remains imperative to pool all resources to stamp out the pandemic by continue to applying the Prime Minister’s Directives No. 15 and 16 .

He therefore requested that the southern city learn lessons from the current implementation of Directive No.16 to perform better and to settle the situation of a large number of local residents still travelling in the streets despite COVID-19 prevention and control measures being in place.

Social distancing rules must continue to be followed, along with ensuring living conditions for people in order to enable them to strictly follow and implement relevant pandemic control measures.

He went on to clarify that the State and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, as well as organisations, the political system at a grass-roots level, and charity organisations, must work together. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City should be more active in issuing travel cards to those who transport goods and deliver medical supplies.

Greater efforts should be made to focus on COVID-19 treatment whilst simultaneously reducing the number of infections as a means of minimizing the death toll. Social distancing measures must therefore be made top priority in efforts to reduce the number of new infections.

Stating that the current COVID-19 wave in southern city may reach its peak over the next few days, he asked that the city continues to strictly comply with Directive 16, while fast tracking the vaccination scheme.

During the course of the session, President Phuc also stated that donors have given around US$4.49 million and 10 ventilators in support of the southern metropolis, along with a large number of medical supplies for the COVID-19 fight.
