Tái kiểm phiểu bầu cử Quốc hội tại địa hạt 34 tiểu bang California. Hai ứng cử viên là Thượng nghị sĩ đương nhiệm Janet Nguyễn của đảng Cộng Hoà và ông Tom Umberg của đảng Dân Chủ. Mặc dù trước đó ông Tom Umberg tuyên bố thắng cử nhưng bà Janet Nguyễn vẫn chưa chấp nhận thua.

Orange County, California – Uỷ ban bầu cử quận Cam của tiểu bang California hôm thứ Năm (6 tháng 12) cho hay sẽ đếm lại số phiếu bầu quốc hội giữa nhiệm kỳ, một tháng sau ngày bầu cử tại địa hạt 34 của tiểu bang. Hai ứng cử viên tham dự cuộc chạy đua tại đơn vị này là Thượng nghị sĩ đương nhiệm Janet Nguyễn của đảng Cộng Hoà và ông Tom Umberg của đảng Dân Chủ. Theo báo Người Việt th́ cuộc tái kiểm phiếu sẽ bắt đầu lúc 9 giờ sáng thứ Hai tuần sau tại trụ sở của Uỷ ban Bầu cử ở thành phố Santa Ana.

Tin nói rằng kết quả kiểm phiếu bắt đầu sau khi các pḥng phiếu chính thức đóng cửa, cho thấy ứng cử viên Janet Nguyễn dẫn trước đối thủ, ông Tom Umberg hơn 10,000 phiếu. Tuy nhiên, kết quả kiểm phiếu đến ngày 19 tháng 11 lại cho thấy cuộc chạy đua trở chiều. Ông Tom Umberg qua mặt và hơn bà Janet Nguyễn 438 phiếu. Kể từ ngày này, ông Tom Umberg tiếp tục dẫn trước.

Kết quả kiểm phiếu cuối cùng tại quận Cam cho thấy, bà Janet Nguyễn được 118,125 phiếu, trong khi ông Tom Umberg được 118,123 phiếu, tức hai bên chỉ xê xích nhau 2 phiếu. C̣n tại quận Los Angeles, bà Janet Nguyễn được 13,848 phiếu, trong khi ông Tom Umberg được 16,939 phiếu. Tổng cộng, ông Tom Umberg hơn bà Janet Nguyễn 3,089 phiếu.

Ngày 28 tháng 11, ứng cử viên đảng Dân Chủ Tom Umberg ra thông báo tuyên bố thắng cử mặc dù bà Janet Nguyễn chưa chấp nhận thua cuộc.

Ngày thứ Hai vừa qua, ông Tom Umberg đă tuyên thệ nhậm chức thượng nghị sĩ địa hạt 34 của tiểu bang California.

Địa Hạt 34 bao gồm các thành phố Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Los Alamitos, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Westminster, và hai cộng đồng Midway City và Rossmoor, cũng như một phần của các thành phố Anaheim, Huntington Beach, và Orange của Orange County và thành phố Long Beach của quận Los Angeles.
