Ông Duterte là một chính trị gia nổi tiếng với những phát ngôn bừa băi. Nếu chấp ông th́ Mỹ là người đầu tiên "vả cho ông vỡ mồm". Ông có thể chửi bất kỳ ai, kể cả Tông thư kư Liên Hợp Quốc, kể cả Tổng thống Mỹ...với những từ ngữ hết sức chợ búa. Nhưng, thật bất ngờ, ngày27/10 sau khi trở về Philippines từ chuyến thăm Nhật Bản, Tổng thống Rodrigo Duterte hứa với Chúa rằng ông sẽ không chửi thề nữa. Ông đă "cải tà quy chính" rồi sao?

Theo BBC, sở dĩ vị tổng thống cứng rắn không sợ bất cứ ai thay đổi quan điểm của ḿnh bởi lúc ngồi trên máy bay trở về nhà, trong lúc mọi người đang ngủ. Theo Tổng thống Philippines chia sẻ với phóng viên: “Tôi đă nghe thấy một giọng nói từ Chúa bảo ḿnh rằng phải ngừng chửi thề nếu không chiếc máy bay sẽ bị rơi giữa không trung. Do đó tôi hứa với Chúa rằng ḿnh sẽ không chửi thề nữa”.

“V́ vậy các vị hăy tin tôi, bởi lời hứa với Chúa là lời hứa với người dân Philippines", ông Duterte nhấn mạnh.

Mặc dù hứa với Chúa “không nói tiếng lóng, dùng từ chửi rủa hay bất cứ thứ ǵ nữa” nhưng ông Duterte vẫn để ngỏ một số ngoại lệ như khi nói về Mỹ, Liên minh châu Âu (EU) hay đối thủ chính trị của ông là Thượng nghị sĩ Leile de Lima…th́ ông vẫn sẽ không kiềm chế được.

Giống như nhiều người Philippines, Tổng thống Duterte là tín đồ của Công giáo mặc dù ông từng gọi Giáo hoàng Francis là “con trai của một ả điếm” v́ cho rằng Giáo hoàng gây ra tắc đường ở Philippines trong chuyến thăm đến quốc gia này.

Gần đây nhất, ngay trước Hội nghị thượng đỉnh G20 tại Trung Quốc, Tổng thống Philippines cũng thóa mạ Tổng thống Obama là “đồ khốn” hay gọi Liên minh châu Âu là “đồ đạo đức giả” và gọi Tổng thư kư Liên Hợp Quốc Ban Ki-moon là “một thằng ngu” v́ chỉ trích cuộc chiến chống ma túy ở đất nước này là vi phạm nhân quyền và phạm tội diệt chủng.
