Good evening.

Minutes ago I was sitting next to the venerable Thich Vien and we spoke and tried to determine Viet's religion. Was he catholic ? was he buddist ? what was he ? I think he was catholic, but as the venerable would say he came to volunteer at my temple many times, just the last two weeks. As so it is with great men, they do not belong to any one religion, but they belong to all of us. Viet was a man with many talents. I knew him as an entertainer, as a writer, as a singer, as a musician, and yet the one area I knew him the best was in his activism for human rights and religious freedom for all around the world but specially for those in Vietnam. That was his passion, and it should be all of our passion. The one area that I knew him best for was as a reporter. Many times I had the honour to sit with him, and to speak about the role of the press and they free a democratic society, the strong, the awesome responsibility of the press in assuring freedom and democracy. And I remembered in those discussions, every once in a while that he would turn to me and asked me a very sharp question, which would put me in a defensive and I would have to answer him very straight, as that the way he wanted to hear ... straight.

Viet was also a very giving man. In many occasions I would ask him to come, and speak to my students at my young senator program and he always came. He never said no. He would show up and spent hours with the students, telling them about the role again of the press in the society, and his opinion is about the role of the press should be in our society.

As I look on here today, I see many elected. I see council members. I see mayor. I am neither. I don't have a resolution today for the family. I don't have the key (?) to the city today. But what I do have is a thought, that we can not forget the lesson that Viet has started. [B]So if I may with the blessing of the family, I am going to see if the State of California can name a part of the state highway in his honour and in his name. So that each time I drive by, each time our children drive by the state highway and they see his name, they will remember and they will ask what this great man was all about.

Chào quý vị,

Vài phút trước đây khi tôi ngồi cạnh hòa thượng Thích Viên, chúng tôi có nói chuyện về tôn giáo của Việt Dũng. Chúng tôi không biết anh là người công giáo hay phật giáo ? Tôn giáo của anh là gì ? Tôi nghĩ anh là theo công giáo, nhưng hòa thượng có nói là anh đã tới làm thiện nguyện ở chùa của ông nhiều lần chỉ trong hai tuần qua. Như với những người vĩ đại, họ không chỉ thuộc vào một tôn giáo nào, mà họ là của tất cả chúng ta. Việt Dũng là người đa tài. Tôi biết anh là một người entertainer (nghệ sĩ hài), là văn sĩ, ca sĩ, nhạc sĩ, nhưng khía cạnh tôi biết anh nhất là một nhà tranh đấu cho nhân quyền, cho tự do tôn giáo cho tất cả mọi người trên thế giới, đặc biệt là cho người Việt. Đó là niềm đam mê của anh, và cũng nên là niềm đam mê cho tất cả chúng ta. Một khía cạnh khác mà tôi biết về anh là như một người phóng viên. Nhiều lần tôi có vinh hạnh ngồi với anh và nói chuyện về vai trò của báo chí và việc báo chí giải phóng xã hội dân chủ, về sức mạnh và trách nhiệm quan trọng của báo chí trong việc bảo đảm tự do và dân chủ. Tôi nhớ lại trong những lần bàn thảo đó, đôi khi anh quay về tôi và hỏi tôi những câu hỏi sắc bén làm cho tôi trở thành bị động, và tôi đã phải trả lời anh ta một cách thẳng thắn, vì đó là cách mà anh muốn nghe, sự thẳng thắn.

Việt Dũng là người có lòng tấm lòng bác ái. Tôi có nhiều lần mời anh tới để nói chuyện với học trò của tôi trong chương trình nghị viên trẻ, và anh không bao giờ từ chối. Anh bỏ nhiều thời giờ với các em học sinh, nói cho các em biết về vai trò của báo chí trong xã hội, và chia xẻ những suy nghĩ của anh về vai trò của báo chí.

Khi tôi nhìn xuống khán giả, tôi thấy có nhiều thành viên hội đồng thành phố, có nhiều thị trưởng. Tôi thì không phải là thị trưởng, cũng không phải trong hội đồng. Hôm nay tôi không có nghị quyết gì cho gia đình Việt Dũng. Tôi cũng không giữ chìa khóa (?) của thành phố. Nhưng có suy nghĩ như vầy, là chúng ta không thể quên bài học mà Việt Dũng đã bắt đầu. Vì vậy, với sự đồng ý của gia đình, tôi sẽ tiến hành việc vinh danh anh bằng cách đặt tên anh cho một phần của xa lộ tỉnh bang California. Để cho mỗi lần tôi và các thế hệ con cháu khi lái xe trên xa lộ này và nhìn thấy tên của anh thì sẽ tưởng nhớ và sẽ hỏi để tìm hiểu về anh.

Việt Dũng chỉ là 1 hạt cát trong bể cát nhạc sĩ đă sáng tác được vài băn nhạc nghe được trong hàng trăm bản nhạc của ông đối với người VN chứ VD có làm cái đết ǵ to tát hay có ư nghiă ǵ cho người dân của sứ cờ hoa đâu mà đ̣i nó ĐẶT TÊN VIỆT DŨNG CHO XA LỘ TỈNH BANG. Tĩnh mộng đi mấy cha nội kháng chiến ơi !!!!. Lời thằng mỹ nói mà tin !!. Thiệt tức cười hahaha ....

haha.....đúng! đúng! chính xác vô cùng...
bọn này chỉ là 1 lũ đào ngũ ..mà bày vẽ chống cộng....
trốn chui trốn nhủi như đám chuột cống trong hố phân mấy chục năm nay mà không biết nhục!!!

Năm mới th́ bác cũng nên khách sáo với người ta chút chứ. Nói thẳng thắn vậy làm người ta buồn th́ mất vui trong nhà hehehehe

bạn để ư trong thread này tụi CS nằm vùng và tụi bợ đít CS như CU THUN phản ứng rất mạnh.
Tụi nó đang sợ tinh thần như của anh VD chống đối cái đảng cướp CSVN đang tàn phá quê hương sẽ lang truyền mạnh.
Trên thực tế ai là người thua cuộc và ai là người thắng cuộc th́ xă hội bây giờ đă cho thấy rơ.
