Vào ngày 27 tháng 7 năm 2017, trên trang web chính thức của quân đoàn 8 Mỹ đang đóng tại Hàn Quốc đă đăng tiểu sử tướng Lương Xuân Việt.

Tướng Lương di cư từ Việt Nam cùng với gia đ́nh sang Hoa Kỳ vào năm 1975 với tư cách là một người tị nạn chính trị. Ông bắt đầu sự nghiệp quân sự khi tốt nghiệp Đại học Nam California năm 1987.

Nhiệm vụ đầu tiên của ông với Tiểu đoàn 1, bộ binh số 8 tại Fort Carson, Colorado, nơi ông phục vụ với chức vụ chỉ huy Trung đội súng trường, Trung đội Chống Tank rồi sau đó là chỉ huy đại đội và tiếp theo là chỉ huy tiểu đoàn.

Năm 1993, tướng Lương tới Fort Bragg, North Carolina và phục vụ trong Tiểu Đoàn 2, Trung Đoàn 325 Lính Dù, thuộc Sư Đoàn 82 Không Vận, Trợ chiến S-3 (Chiến dịch) và Tư lệnh Đại Đội Alpha. Trong khi chỉ huy Đại Đội Alpha, ông ta đă triển khai tới Haiti để hỗ trợ Chiến Dịch Giữ Ǵn Tự Do (OPERATION UPHOLD DEMOCRACY) với tư cách là Chỉ huy Lực Lượng Phản Ứng Nhanh.

Sau khi được phân công tại Fort Bragg, ông được bổ nhiệm vào Trung tâm Huấn Luyện với tư cách là Giám Sát Viên, cũng trong thời gian này tướng Lương thường xuyên được giao nhiệm vụ làm tư lệnh chỉ huy Nhóm Đặc Nhiệm Nam Âu (SETAF), Trưởng ban Kế hoạch của SETAF G-3, Cán bộ điều hành và Tổng tham mưu của Tiểu đoàn 1, Không đoàn 508, Lữ đoàn Dù 173, ở Vicenza, Ư. Trong nhiệm vụ của ḿnh tại SETAF, ông đă triển khai đến Kosovo và Bosnia-Herzegovina như một phần của Lực phản ứng chiến dịch của NATO.

Sau nhiệm vụ này, ông được điều tới làm Lực lượng Đặc nhiệm Bắc tại Fort Bliss, nơi ông phục vụ như là một sĩ quan hoạch định, trưởng Pḥng Mục tiêu và Khai thác để hỗ trợ Bộ Quốc pḥng. Năm 2005, ông đảm nhận chỉ huy Tiểu Đoàn 2, Trung Đoàn Dù 505, Lữ Đoàn dă chiến 3, sư đoàn Không Vận 82. Vào tháng 9 năm 2005, tướng Lương làm chỉ huy lực lượng với tên gọi là sư đoàn số 1 cứu trợ băo Katrina ở New Orleans. Và sau đó tham gia chiến dịch Giữ Ǵn Ḥa B́nh Iraq 2006-08, rồi chiến dịch chống Khủng Bố.

Tháng 2 năm 2009, tướng Lương đảm nhiệm vị trí chỉ huy của Lữ Đoàn 3 (Rakkasans), Sư đoàn 101 Không quân (Air Assault). Vào tháng 1 năm 2010, Lữ Đoàn 3 đă được triển khai tới Afghanistan trong CHIẾN DỊCH BẢO VỆ DO TỰ DO 2010-11. Theo yêu cầu của BCT (US ARMY Basic Combat Training), tướng Lương tham dự Đại học Stanford với tư cách là Uỷ viên An ninh Quốc gia và sau đó là Phó Giám đốc, Bộ Tổng Tham Mưu Liên Quân J5 Afghanistan và Pakistan. Sau nhiệm vụ này, tướng Lương được chỉ định chỉ huy Sư Đoàn 1 Kỵ Binh, nơi ông phục vụ như Tư lệnh Chỉ Huy Trưởng Huấn Luyện và Tham Mưu Trưởng trong Chiến dịch OPERATION FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, Kandahar, Afghanistan. Tiếp theo, ông được bổ nhiệm làm Giám đốc Joint and Integration, HQDA, DCS, G-8. Sau đó ông được phân công làm Tham Mưu Trưởng Quân Đoàn 3. Và Hiện tại làm Chỉ Huy Chiến Dịch Quân Đoàn 8.



Tướng Lương có bằng Cử nhân về Khoa học Sinh học từ USC và Thạc sỹ Khoa học và Kỹ thuật Quân sự. Ông kết hôn với Kimberly Lau ở Denver, Colorado. Họ có ba người con: con gái, Ashley và con trai, Brandon và Justin.

BG Viet Luong emigrated from Vietnam with his family to the United States in 1975 as a political refugee. He began his military career upon graduating from the University of Southern California in 1987.

His first assignment was with the 1st battalion, 8th Infantry at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he served as Rifle Platoon Leader, Anti-Tank Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion Maintenance Officer.

In 1993, BG Luong was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina and served in the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2d Brigade, 82d Airborne Division, as the Assistant S-3 (Operations) and Commander of Alpha Company. While commanding Alpha Company, he deployed to Haiti in support of OPERATION UPHOLD DEMOCRACY as the Commander of the Theater Quick Reaction Force.


Following his assignment at Fort Bragg, he was assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center as an Observer Controller, and subsequently assigned to the Southern European Task Force (SETAF) upon completion of the Command and General Staff College. BG Luong served as SETAF G-3 Chief of Plans, and the Operations Officer and Executive Officer of the 1st Battalion, 508th Airborne Battalion Combat Team, 173d Airborne Brigade, in Vicenza, Italy. During his assignment at SETAF, BG Luong deployed to Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina on several occasions as part of the NATO Strategic Response Force.

Following this assignment, he was assigned to Joint Task Force North at Fort Bliss, where he served as a plans officer and Chief, Targeting and Exploitation Division in support of the Department of Homeland Defense. In 2005, he assumed command of the 2d Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3d Brigade Combat Team, 82d Airborne Division. During this command, BG Luong deployed his battalion in September 2005 as the Division Ready Force 1, in support of OPERATION AMERICAN ASSIST, the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts in New Orleans, and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 06-08, in support of the War on Terror.

In February 2009, BG Luong assumed command of the 3d Brigade Combat Team (Rakkasans), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). In January 2010, 3d Brigade Combat Team deployed to Afghanistan for OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 10-11. Following BCT command, BG Luong attended Stanford University as a National Security Fellow and subsequently served as the Deputy Director, Pakistan Afghanistan Coordination Cell, J5, the Joint Staff. Following his Joint Staff assignment, BG Luong was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, where he served as the Deputy Commanding General (Maneuver), Commanding General (Rear), and Commander of Train, Advise, Assist, Command- South during OPERATION FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, Kandahar, Afghanistan. Following the assignment, he was assigned as the Director of Joint and Integration, HQDA, DCS, G-8. He was then assigned as the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Central. He currently serves as the Deputy Commanding General – Operations, 8th Army.

BG Luong holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the USC and a Master of Military Arts and Science. He is married to the former Kimberly Lau of Denver, Colorado. They have three children: daughter, Ashley and sons, Brandon and Justin.
