Đúng là chuyện cười ra nước mắt. Chính phủ đóng cửa, Tổng thống Trump đă tự chi tiền đặt một bữa tiệc toàn đồ ăn nhanh nhằm tiếp đăi một đội bóng bầu dục. Bở v́ khi đầu bếp tại Nhà Trắng đă nghỉ làm...

"Như các bạn biết đấy, v́ chính phủ đóng cửa, chúng tôi đă đặt đồ ăn nhanh kiểu Mỹ bằng tiền của tôi", ông Trump giải thích khi chuẩn bị đón tiếp các cầu thủ của Clemson Tigers, đội bóng chiến thắng trong giải vô địch quốc gia.

"Tôi nghĩ họ sẽ thích những món ăn này hơn bất cứ thứ ǵ mà chúng tôi có thể tặng cho họ", ông Trump nói thêm. "Chúng tôi có pizza, 300 chiếc bánh kẹp và nhiều khoai tây chiên, tất cả các món ăn yêu thích của chúng tôi".

Khi được hỏi rằng món ăn Mỹ mà ông yêu thích nhất là ǵ, Tổng thống Trump cho biết: “Tôi thích tất cả. Nếu đó là đồ Mỹ, th́ tôi sẽ thích”.

Thông thường, các đầu bếp Nhà Trắng nổi tiếng với kỹ năng nấu nướng xuất sắc, thường sẽ phục vụ những món ăn rất tinh tế và sang trọng. Tuy nhiên, toàn bộ họ đă bị nghỉ không lương trong 24 ngày qua, v́ chính phủ đóng cửa.

Từ ngày 22/12/2018, chính phủ Mỹ đă đóng cửa một phần do bất đồng quan điểm giữa Tổng thống Trump và đảng Dân chủ về vấn đề ngân sách xây bức tường biên giới với Mexico.

"Về giữ an toàn cho người dân Mỹ, tôi sẽ không bao giờ lùi bước", ông Trump nói với các nông dân tham dự một hội nghị ở New Orleans hôm 14/1, nhắc lại quan điểm cương quyết của ông rằng bức tường biên giới là cần thiết trên cả cơ sở an ninh và nhân đạo.

Trong khi ông Trump kiên quyết không nhượng bộ chừng nào có được 5,7 tỷ USD xây tường, th́ các lănh đạo đảng Dân chủ tuyên bố họ sẽ không thông qua đề xuất trên, viện dẫn lư do rằng đây là một công tŕnh tốn kém và không hiệu quả.

Khoảng 800.000 nhân viên chính phủ Mỹ bị ảnh hưởng bởi đợt đóng cửa lần này. Họ bị chậm trả lương hoặc phải nghỉ ở nhà do các cơ quan liên bang đă hết ngân sách hoạt động. Các đầu bếp trong Nhà Trắng cũng không phải là ngoại lệ.
